Can You Add Air Conditioning to a Jeep Wrangler

For Jeep Wranglers with a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine, this is a complete air conditioning kit. This is a complete air conditioning kit that may be used to add air conditioning to a Jeep Wrangler that doesn’t have it already, or to replace a whole system on a Jeep Wrangler that isn’t working. In ideal circumstances, your air conditioner should be put on the north or east side of your house, where it will be naturally shaded from the sun during the hottest portion of the day.

Simply put, you will not be able to replace your air conditioning equipment on your own. If you have the technical skills to install an air conditioner, the electrical components raise the risk. The average cost of installing central air conditioning, including the unit, according to HomeAdvisor is between $3,000 and $7,000. However, costs vary significantly depending on where you reside, the sort of system you require, and the state of your existing air ducts.

A/C Setup

Compare the cost of dealer-installed air against the trade-in loss. You might decide to grab some options you didn’t think you needed or wanted when you were eating it. We will not sell an air conditioning kit for the 07-08 Wrangler due to the complexity of installing a/c in the new Wrangler and the computer’s inability to add air conditioning. The dashboard, pedals, steering column, and wire harness must be removed from the vehicle before the evaporator can be installed, which takes around 15 hours. The evaporator box is encased in an aluminum shell, as developed by Jeep. The evaporator cannot be removed without first removing this aluminum section, which runs the length of the dashboard.

We chose to pull every plug from behind the dash in this photo, but the computer on the passenger side can also be unplugged.  Instead of fighting the grommet in the firewall and figuring out the plugs, we thought it would be quicker to just plug it back together this way. Although the Jeep is pre-wired for air conditioning, the computer will not register the system until it is fully installed. Without accessing the computer, we couldn’t find a solution around this problem. The a/c can be powered by a thermostat, but we don’t compromise on quality, therefore we won’t sell a kit that could cause the Jeep to generate codes as a result of aftermarket a/c wiring.

The fact is that the JK was never intended to be retrofitted with A/C. late last year on a local dealer’s lot was a still brand-new silver X 2 door. I was thinking about buying it as a second Jeep, and a friend was as well the only drawback was that it didn’t have air conditioning. I simply would not own a car without it. Because no one wanted this Jeep because it lacked air conditioning, the dealer had already gone through the step of having it installed. Reps from Chrysler told them it couldn’t be done simply, and that while the parts could be ordered individually from MOPAR, there was no A/C kit available, unlike on the TJs, where it could be installed quickly and cheaply.

I believe your best bet is to find a totaled JK and completely remove the system from it the plenum, controls, coils, blower, etc. It will come out as a unit. then you can purchase anything you couldn’t get from the wrecked jeep otherwise it will cost so much you’ll be better off selling the Jeep and buying a new one  I’ve added air conditioning to many vehicles before, including my current Monte Carlo Hotrod, which didn’t even have dash vents when I bought it also, for those of you up north, this has been an unprecedented hot summer unlikely to happen again next year and this summer will begin to taper off up north, so best bet might just be to ride it out.
