Where is the SiriusXM Antenna Located?

The XM Sky Dock Mount Magnetic Antenna should be mounted on the top of the SUV if you are installing it. As indicated, the optimal location is near the front center of the roof, directly over the windshield.

What is the difference between an XM antenna and a regular antenna?

The Antenna’s Position

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, Sirius suggests that you point your antenna south when you first turn it on. You’ll get a signal in most cases, but not all of them. When trying to position your Sirius antenna and increase reception, there are various aspects to consider, most of them are geographical.

South’s location

To find south, use a regular compass; it’s on the side of the structure that receives the most sun during the day. You can also use a compass app on your phone to locate the south direction or go to Google Maps to locate your residence. Close to a window or open area is the greatest option. If you want a better signal, raise the antenna high. To determine the intensity of the signal, look at the signal indicator or antenna-aiming screen. To fill in the gaps produced by structures in several large population centers, Sirius has terrestrial transmitters. You might not need to look south if you live in one of these places.

South’s Exceptions

If you live in the Northwest of the United States, targeting east or northeast may help you receive better reception. Try north or northeast in the Southwest. Aim north or northwest in the southeastern region of the country. To get the most signal exposure, mount your antenna on the tallest place on your car or truck. Because installing a safe and secure system on your vehicle can be difficult, you might want to hire an expert.

Problems Receiving

If none of these options work, you may need to invest in an external antenna that may be mounted as high as feasible on your house. They can also be mounted on a pole to achieve even higher heights.

What are the proper locations for Sirius/XM antennas?

1) The visibility behind the vehicle will be hindered. If you’re heading north, the car’s roof will block your view of satellites. Due to satellite orbit geometry (geostationary orbits for XM, Tundra orbits for Sirius), XM has a worse problem than Sirius, but both suffer from severe performance degradation.

2) I’m almost confident the antenna should be placed above a solid ground plane. This isn’t the case for the majority of dashboards.Trying to avoid antenna damage is a lame excuse because XM/Sirius antennas are so small that they aren’t even close to being damaged. Unfortunately, I believe your installers were slackers.

Installation

The antenna should be mounted on the roof of the SUV if you are using the Standard XM Mount Magnetic Antenna. As illustrated, the optimal site is in the back middle of the roof. If another antenna is already in place, space the antenna out at least 3 inches.

• Feed the antenna cable through the rear tailgate window/rubber door’s weather stripping and along the back hatch. Tuck the cable within the opening after removing the weather stripping. The weather stripping should be replaced after that. Remove the cable from the weatherstripping and run it through the cabins inside trim. Avoid any hinges or gears that may cause the cable to crimp or cut.
• Connect the cable to the front of the SUV through the main cabin area, under the interior trim. Lift the plastic trim just enough to tuck the cable beneath using a plastic putty knife. Avoid the back pillars and above the doors for side airbag deployment. (SRS logos are used to indicate where airbags are located.) Make sure the cable isn’t crimped or severed.
• Bring the cable out from the dashboard trim and route it under the carpet to the dashboard or console. Keep any extra cable tucked away from vehicle pedals and controls, such as under the carpet. Using wire ties, secure any surplus cable.
• Bring the cable’s other end to the XM Radio station. Allow enough cable to connect to the antenna connector on the XM Radio or Vehicle Dock (sometimes labelled ANT, ANT IN, or ANTENNA).
