How to Adjust Headlights on 2012 Jeep Wrangler

How to Adjust Headlights on 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Instead of the sealed beam bulbs found in prior Jeep Wrangler and CJ models, the JK Wrangler features new style headlamp lenses with bulb inserts.

You may notice an increase in “black space” in front of the Jeep after installing lift kits and/or wider tyres. This is because the lights have been raised in height, and the light angle is now throwing further ahead. On the upper outside quarter of the JK Wrangler’s light, there is one adjustment screw. Adjusting the light does not necessitate removing the grille. It is not possible to adjust the light on many axes because the JK has just one adjuster per light. All of the changes will be a compromise.

Procedure

This method is designed for those of us who prefer to do things ourselves. Your Jeep’s lights can be fine-tuned at an auto repair shop or dealer (for a fee, of course).Drive the Jeep as flat as possible on a level surface. Mark the location of the lights’ center using tape. Back up 25 feet and look for the difference in light intensity between the center line and the lights on the Jeep. Back out the adjuster screw and try lowering the lights. Lower the lights 1-2 inches at a time and test drive the Jeep to ensure proper alignment. The lights can usually be adjusted to be roughly half the size of your lift.Remember that a 2.5-inch raise combined with 2-inch taller tyres equals 3.5-inch lift.

Headlight Alignment for Your Jeep

When you elevate your Jeep or install a new set of headlights, it’s critical to make sure they’re adjusted properly. So, here’s a quick tip to ensure that everything is oriented properly.Make the necessary adjustments using the lights’ horizontal and vertical adjusting screws (found on the headlights bucket).

Aligning Low Beams

The lower right portions of the crosses should be hit by low-beams.

Aligning High Beams

The cross hairs should be separated by high beams.

Steps

Step 1: Park your Jeep vehicle as close as possible to a wall on level ground.

Step 2 – Tape two crosses on the wall that match the vertical and horizontal center lines of both headlights

Step 3 – Back up 25 feet, keeping the Jeep centered on the wall with the tape crosses.

Step 4: Look at the pattern of light.

Regarding headlamp adjustment, I’d like to hear from people who have done it before. When looking at the mounted lamp from the outside, I saw that each headlight has two adjustments that are easily apparent. I’m in the United States, therefore I’ll be concentrating on up and down adjustments. I recently had a 2.5″ TF lift installed on my JKUR, and before the lift, I used black electrical tape to mark my garage in the center of the beam, recording the distance my Jeep was from my garage. I then used a t15 Torx driver to make sure I was in the same spot and adjusted the lights down to put the tape back in the middle of the beam. It had only taken a few seconds.

Adjustment

After a raise, the headlight angle should always be adjusted. You can do it yourself with some basic tools, or hire a shop to perform it with alignment equipment.

The headlamp adjustments are on the Pass Side at 11 o’clock and the Driver Side at 2 o’clock. A Torx bit is required Headlights are turned down in the clockwise direction and up in the clockwise direction. I went 3 rounds counter clockwise with a 4.0″ lift and 35″ tyres.

Adjustment in the right way

1. Place your JEEP at a distance of 20 feet from a flat wall or structure.

2. Take a measurement from the ground to where you want the bulb to go on your headlamp lens

3. Measure from the ground up the wall to the same measurement as the headlight with a piece of tape. Mark with tape

4. Set the high beam on the headlights.

5. Use the adjustment screws on the retainer ring holding the lens to adjust the headlamp lens. The light on the wall should have a hotspot about 1/2 inch below your mark.

6. Remove the tape, change to low beam, and your lights should be ready to go

How do you adjust the headlights on a Jeep JK left and right?

One screw adjusts the headlight up/down, while the other adjusts left/right – while keeping your eye on the beam on the wall, slowly turn one of the screws to see which way it’s adjusting; if it’s not the direction you want, return it to its original location and use the other screw.

What is the proper height for headlights?

The top of the low beam that shines on the wall should be at or slightly below the height of the center of the headlight lens on most vehicles. The light pattern should be higher on the passenger side to illuminate road signs and lower on the driver’s side to avoid blinding other drivers.
