How to Change Soft Top to Hardtop on Jeep Wrangler

It is not possible to use the two interchangeably. Converting to a soft top comes with both benefits and drawbacks. The old top must be removed first, in the proper manner for the type of top being replaced, and then the new top can be installed in its place. Depending on whether the jeep was designed to be transitional, the removal of a hard or soft top and installation of a new one can take a variety of forms.

The Hard Top is being removed

Although there may be some variances between brands, the essential methods for removing the hard top are as follows:

1. The first step is to remove the freedom panels, which are positioned over the passenger and driver’s seats in the vehicle’s roof.

2. Many jeeps have bolted-down tops, which must be unscrewed out of position with a T40 Torx bit. The bolts will be on top of the hardtop as well as in the inside, connecting it to the vehicle in some way.

3. Remove any electrical hookups and water hoses that link the top to the actual vehicle.

4. Remove the vehicle’s hard top.

The Soft Top’s Installation

Due to the size of the soft top, it may be beneficial to have another person assist you the first few times or so to ensure a smooth process:

  1. Put the soft top’s structure in place. This framework acts as a backbone for the fitted soft top to be rolled into position. Typically, the frame will snap or bolt on to the various elements of the vehicle.
  2. Align and bolt the soft top’s metal appendages to the back of the vehicle. This stage should be completed by two individuals so that the alignment process may be completed without difficulty. On either side, both individuals can hold the softcover and bolt it in place.
  • Pull the soft top all the way to the front of the vehicle and secure it in the roof’s front clasp. The softcover should be corrected if the cover does not reach the front of the roof adequately to lock.

Installation Process Steps

  • Bow Brackets should be installed.
  • Door Rails must be installed.
  • Attach the fabric, header, and side bow assembly to the Jeep

  • Rear Window Replacement
  • Left Side Window should be installed.
  • Set up the right-side window
  • Secure the bottom corners of the rear window by snapping the tailgate bar onto tailgate bar mounts.
  • The Top is Folded

Can you put a hard top on a soft top Jeep Wrangler?

Is it possible to install a hardtop on a Jeep that has a soft top? Yes, you may install a hard top on any Jeep as long as the hard top is designed for your Jeep’s year and model. It’s “as easy” as removing the soft top components and replacing them with hard top components to convert your Jeep from soft to hard top.

How do you change a Jeep soft top to a hard top?

Simply unbolt the soft top frame and peel off the door surrounds. It appears to be more challenging than it actually is. With two individuals, though, it is easier to remove it. It’s not particularly heavy, but it’s uncomfortable. You’ll need the hardware for the hard top, which Quadratec should sell. Three bolts each side, plus nuts that clip into the tub rails.

Hard Top Installation

  1. On top of the belt rail, remove the molded seal behind each door. The hard top’s back window should be closed and the tailgate should be opened.
  2.  With the assistance of a friend, mount the hardtop to the Jeep’s belt rail. Avoid damaging the foam sealer that connects the hardtop to the Jeep’s body.
  3. Align the top holes with the vehicle’s holes. Connect the hardtop to the Jeep’s body with bolts and washers, then tighten two turns.
  4. The rubber flap should hang over the flange of the windshield, so center the hard top on the gasket. In the slots on the hard top, hook the windshield latches.
  5.  Align the holes by placing the upper portion of the doors on the lower portion of the doors. To secure the door, put the bolts in place and tighten them into the compression nuts.
  6. Make adjustments to the top until everything is in place. Retighten all of the bolts completely. To avoid stripping the nuts, do not overtighten the bolts.

How to put soft top on Jeep Wrangler 2 door 2020

  • Open the tailgate of your Jeep Wrangler by removing the Velcro straps from the side bows in the back.
  • Lift the soft top and slide the sidebar forward until the clasp snaps into place on the rail.
  • Fold the header inwards, away from the windshield. To loosen the latches under the sun visors, reach inside the front doors and loosen them. These latches will be tightened in the future.
  • Fold the sail panels in half and secure them to the rail above the taillights.
  • Slide the tailgate bar through the back window strip, ensuring that the rubber seal is on the outside at the bottom. Close the window by rolling the tailgate bar into the clips above the tail lights. The tailgate should then be shut.
  • To make installation of the rear quarter windows easier, open the back doors. While zipping the windows on a few inches and tucking in the retainers, use the Velcro to assist hold them in place. Close the windows completely.
  • The windshield latches on the header must be secured.
