How to Remove Your Jeep Wrangler’s Hard Top in Steps

Step 1

 Unscrew the rear fastener knob overhead on the speaker bar assembly, beginning on the driver’s side. Place it in a secure location, such as the console.

Step 2

Open all three L-shaped locks from above. Move the sun visor to the side after unclipping it. Remove the Freedom Panel from the roof by lifting the header latch above the windshield frame. Take it out of the Wrangler by pushing it up.

Step 3

Unscrew the Rear Fastener Knob on the passenger’s side and fully open the single L-shaped lock. Move the sun visor to the side after unclipping it. Lift up on the Header Latch immediately above the windshield frame to remove the Freedom Panel.

Step 4

Only apply to Wranglers with four doors: Remove the two screws that hold the hard tops of the driver’s and passenger’s doors together with your T-40 Torx Head driver.

Step 5

Remove the six Torx Head screws keeping the hard top in place in the Wrangler’s trunk compartment with your T-40 Torx Head driver. On both sides, there are three.

Step 6

Look inside the back left corner of the hardtop for the wire harness.Pull away from the top of the rear windshield washer hose to disconnect it.

Slid the red tab to the right and press on the sides of the clip to disconnect the electrical harness. To completely detach the harness, pull it out.

Step 7

Close the swing gate and get another set of hands ready to assist you in lifting and removing the hard top off the Jeep. Raise the hardtop on each side and walk it to the back of the Jeep.

Step 8

 Return the hard top to the Wrangler with the assistance of a buddy. Check that everything is in place on all of the ledges, and that the six Torx Head screws are lined up and ready to be secured inside.

Step 9

Slide the red tab to the left to lock the clip and reconnect the electrical harness to the top. Reattach the top of the rear windshield washer hose.

Step 10

Replace the six Torx Head screws in the top of the Wrangler’s trunk compartment with your T-40 Torx Head driver.

Step 11

Only for Jeep Wranglers with four doors:

To completely secure your hard top, use your T-40 Torx Head driver to reinstall the Torx Head screws above the driver and passenger doors.

Step 12

Replace the passenger-side Freedom Panel on the roof, then the driver-side Freedom Panel on the roof, making that everything is in position.

Step 13

Attach the Rear Fastener Knob to the Speaker Bar Assembly on the passenger side. To secure the Freedom Panel, close the overhead L-shaped lock and press down on the header latch above the windshield frame.

Step 14

Attach the Rear Fastener Knob to the speaker bar assembly on the driver’s side. Close all three L-shaped locks, then secure the Freedom Panel by pressing down on the header latch and clipping the sun visor back in place.
