Many off-roaders have seen Jeeps with snorkels fitted; the question is whether your Jeep needs one. Let us first define a snorkel, and then you can decide whether or not your Jeep requires one. A snorkel’s principal purpose is to supply cold, dry, clean air to the engine during off-roading. A snorkel can assist prevent water and debris from entering your engine by providing clean, dry, and cold air.

Others believe it is an extraneous piece of equipment. If you spend a lot of time off-roading in dusty areas, a snorkel can be a good idea.

Required Materials

  • Screwdriver
    • A knife for applying putty
    • Use a stepped drill bit to drill out the holes

    • Sockets: T30, T40, T50
    • Paint in the colour black

Step 1:  Remove the cowl and windshield bracket

To begin, unscrew the six T40 bolts that secure the windscreen bracket to the car’s frame.  Remove the four T40 bolts that secure the wiper blade cowl to the chassis next. Finally, remove the wiper blade arms by removing the 1/2 inch of the wiper blade arms “They’re held in place by bolts. When the movable brackets at the firewall are “unlocked,” the entire cowl lifts off.

Step 2: Remove the door and the fender

Remove the T50 bolts from each hinge to remove the door. As the door is heavy and will not support it after the bolts are removed, have someone ready to handle it. Then, in the engine bay, unscrew the four 10mm bolts that run along the fender. Under the inside fender, there are two pinch fender bolts that may need to be removed in order to gain access.

It’s now possible to separate the fender from the chassis. A plaster knife is needed to break loose an adhesives applied at the manufacture to the fender. The antenna wire, which may be tugged out with pliers, is also one of the things which must be replaced before the fender can be removed.

Step 3: Drill welds and make fender modifications

Drill the welds that attach the fender to the top cowl out. To drill out the welds, the fender should be drilled from above. Now you may totally remove the fender. The following step of this installation may be the most nerve-wracking.

Step 4: Remove the intake box and install the snorkel ducting

To make room for the snorkel, remove the lower and upper sections of the intake box. Then, following the instructions included in the kit, make a mock-up of the lower box of your snorkel set and test it for fit. The lower box should then be removed.

Following that will be the installation of the aluminium intake tract that joins the intake box to the snorkel. A power steering line bracket is used to keep the intake tract in place in this example. To achieve a good seal, use RTV at all connectors.

Step 5: Installing the snorkel

The snorkel assembly’s next component is. Then, at the bottom of the snorkel, attach the drain hose, ensuring sure to keep the valve closed.

Step 6: Replace all of your software

Your Jeep’s snorkel duct installation is now complete. All that’s left is to reassemble the body and the upper portion of the air intake box. The attachment holes in the body panels are a little oblong so that they can be adjusted. If the panel gaps do not appear to be ideal after reinstalling the panels, release the mounting nuts and shift the panels around until they are even and uniform.
