How to Remove Rear Windshield Wiper of Jeep Wrangler

The entire rear wiper assembly is comprised of a few separate components. The wiper arm, as well as the motor that allows it to move, are included in this category. A few plastic fittings will also have to be removed as part of the procedure. You should be able to service these parts without difficulty if you carefully follow the instructions.

Removing the rear wiper arm from the splines on previous vehicles was as simple as removing the nut and applying constant upwards pressure. The JK is yet to be touched. You’ll have to struggle for it, but the arm will pull straight off. To work the arm up the shaft, I used a screwdriver and then a box wrench. As soon as you’ve reassembled, to reset the motor to neutral, connect all of the wire first and turn it on once. This will ensure that the arm is properly reset. Anti-seize on the shaft are also a good idea.

Required Materials

  • screwdriver with a flat tip
  • Allen keys are keys that are used to open and close
  • Wrenches in various sizes or socket wrenches in various sizes
  • Pulls gears
  • Remove the plastic housing in the first step

Step 1

The wiper motor assembly is protected by a plastic casing. On the inside of the back window, behind the rear wiper, you’ll find this component. With a slight pull, the plastic cover should easily come off.

Step 2

Start removing the rear window’s motor housing. On the left, a nut and a bolt must be loosened but not completely removed. These can be found in Figure 2 as well. Remove the electrical connection from the housing’s bottom. At the “L” fitting, there is another hose that must be removed.

Step 3

Discard the wiper blades plastic housing.

On the outside of the rear window, you must now work on the wiper arm itself. You’ll notice a little plastic cover at the base of the wiper arm. This cover, like the one on the wiper motor, is simple to remove. To reveal the nut, just pull this tiny piece off.

Step 4

Disconnect the wiper arm and nut. Patience and caution are required for this step. The wiper arm is now free after the nut is removed. However, pulling the arm away from the sensitive nozzle beneath must be done with caution. Using a flathead screwdriver to pry this off will damage some of the plastic bits beneath the arm, which is where the gear puller can come in handy. Pull the wiper arm straight toward you and away from the nozzle underneath.

Step 5

Remove the complete assembly by loosening the nozzle. You’ll be left with a small brass nozzle with a small plastic boot after removing the wiper arm. To reveal the nut underneath, simply pull off the plastic boot. Once this nut is removed, the complete motor assembly should come apart easily.

How do you get rid of the wiper on the back window?

The cover and spray nozzle for the rear window washer were broken when the JK’s garage door was closed. To fix/replace the washer nozzle, the full wiper motor component must be changed. I can remove all of the bolts except the wiper arm, which appears to be pressed against the motor shaft and needs to be removed with a special puller. My wiper arm, too, refused to come off. I went to AutoZone and the manager came out to the parking lot with a little bearing remover tool and helped me remove the wiper arm.

It’s worth noting that if your spray nozzle isn’t broken already, you’ll break it in the process.  The rest of the disassembly procedure is straightforward. One of the bolts requires a Torx socket, another requires a regular socket, and the main nut that surrounds the wiper shaft requires a large wrench. When it’s all taken apart, make sure you don’t lose any rubber isolators, grommets, or washers. The Snap-On and snap-off plastic cover are simple to use. It took approximately 15 minutes to replace the motor. The most difficult aspect of the job was removing the wiper arm
